Visual Identity & Website Structure

Modified on Tue, 14 Jan at 2:25 PM

The Institutional Marketing Team is responsible for ensuring the design and construction of all University websites conform with the University’s Brand Guide. This includes all templates created in the official content management system (CMS) for the university. The Institutional Marketing Team will create mobile responsive templates that support the goals and initiatives of the university and the university’s many departments and organizations.

All new website projects must be requested through the Institutional Marketing Team.

The Institutional Marketing Team reserves the right to modify, edit, or remove any website that violates the branding guidelines or website standards. The department representative will be notified of such modifications or removal.

All third-party web services must be branded to match the Central identity whenever possible. This includes colors, logo, and content policies outlined in this document.

Style & Branding Guidelines

All university websites should strive to promote a single brand identity. No department should look, and act as separate from Central.

  • The default colors, font-sizes, etc. should not be changed without extenuating circumstances and permission from the Institutional Marketing Team. Bold, italic, underline, and other font-highlighting options should be used sparingly.
  • Navigation is set by the Institutional Marketing Team and built into the template. Changing how navigation works on the site is prohibited without approval from the Institutional Marketing Team.
  • Brochures and marketing materials are not replacements for web pages. PDF versions can be added as supplemental information.
  • HTML tables should be used only when displaying tabular data and should never be used to apply structure to page elements. Larger tables should be converted into PDF documents and uploaded separately.

University Templates

The Institutional Marketing Team will create and maintain templates for use in the University’s CMS that support the needs of university constituents, adhere to the guidelines in the university style guide, and comply with all accessibility and usability standards outlined in this document.

Modification or duplication of the templates or any of their components is prohibited unless given explicit permission from the Institutional Marketing Team.
